You Are More Than A Body Image
Body image is our subjective mental picture of our outward appearance. To improve body image we try to understand how we relate to that image, unpack the meaning behind our body story, identify what all shapes that internal picture of our body, develop skills to navigate the world without blaming our body, and create an alliance with our body. Having a positive body image is about respect and kindness, so even on the days you don’t like your body, you can still care for it.
One of the best ways to improve your body image is to realize that you are more than that body image. You have a body image because you are a human and humans have bodies, but it’s not the most important thing about you or even how other’s may see you. You have purpose and gifts to give the world, but you can’t do bigger things if you only reserve a small amount of brain space outside of body thoughts.
There is more joy in your future than you can even imagine, however you can’t experience it if you are spending all of your energy trying to control your weight. We don’t heal while waiting for the ‘perfect’ body before we start living, because that day will never come. We heal by not letting our body image stop us from doing what we want in the world.
